Two Facebook Pages

As many of you are aware of, I posted a blog about whether or not YouTube Guru's should consider themselves role models. For the most part most of you that commented agreed with me. You felt that whether you asked for the role position or not when you have a lot of subscribers and you post comments on public sites (YouTube, Twitter, etc) you are allowing the world to see. When the world can see you talking about how you are getting drunk, getting high, etc. then where does the line stop between it's "my life" and being a public figure? Unless your goal is to end up in the tabloids - it's not like it couldn't happen - plenty of people that just make videos on YouTube are meeting the true celebrity status. So I got a comment that brought up a point - I was basically called a hypocrite because after a very stressful week I made a comment on my PRIVATE (locked to the public) facebook page about going out with people from work.

Here is my solution for this. If I don't know you personally and IRL then I am removing you from my private page. That page is locked so the only thing you can see are my pictures. You can't read any of my updates or see anything about me. If you are not a "fan" of my natneagle page then please click the link on this blog post and become one. Since I am no longer accepting people I don't know on my private page, I am going to make the conscious effort to interact more with my "fan" page. I honestly don't see myself as someone that needs a "fan" page, but I need to have some kind of separation. I don't need people judging me when I make a comment that is closed to public eye.

I am sure some people will say this is me hiding or whatever from others, but that is just not the case. I have so many people I don't know personally on my private facebook page that I use to interact with friends from high school and work and I have been trying to not accept people I don't know for awhile. I have not been that successful at it so I decided after this incident, now is the perfect time. So if you have not lost respect for me or whatnot - if you are a friend on my personal facebook page then please add the "youtube" facebook page above.

I still stand by my opinion - we need to be conscious about what we say if we are in the public spectrum. Being that I am in education, I really have to filter what I say and do because I could ultimately lose my job. I got an email the other day about educators being careful. Freedom of speech only goes so far these days. Crazy - but true.

XOXO
